Cervical Smears

Our practice nurses can perform your cervical smear. When you get your reminder letter from the national screening programme please contact reception to arrange an appointment.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects on staff levels we are having to prioritise women in greatest need of smear tests. Those women with non routine results in the past that currently have a 6monthly or annual smear recall will have their smears done. Women who are due 3 or 5 yearly smear tests should still call the practice to arrange their smear test but they may have to wait for an appointment, in this case we will add your name to a waiting list and contact you with an appointment as soon as possible.

Any woman who is experiencing concerning symptoms including bleeding after sex, bleeding between periods or post menopausal bleeding should arrange a telephone triage appointment with a GP and not wait for their smear test.

Contraception

All doctors are happy to give advice on this subject.  A number of our Practice Nurses are able to do contraceptive pill checks, intra-uterine contraceptive checks, implants and depo injections. Intra-uterine contraceptive (coils) are fitted by a GP. Emergency contraception is available with a GP appointment and can also be obtained directly from a local pharmacy.

We provide an annual review with the Practice Nurse for those with COPD. The nurses are available at other times for help if needed. The Practice Nurses will give advice about the best inhalers for patients, will measure lung function, advise about smoking cessation and refer to respiratory rehabilitation classes if necessary.
